Veteran White House correspondent Helen Thomas announced her retirement Monday following an uproar over comments she made on camera last month about Jews in Israel.
Hearst Corporation, which employed Thomas as a columnist, put out a brief story by Hearst News Service announcing the retirement "effective immediately."
The announcement came after the White House Correspondents Association decried her remarks as "indefensible" and began to consider whether Thomas should continue to have the privilege of a front-row seat in the briefing room. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs called her remarks "offensive and reprehensible" on Monday, as other former White House spokesmen called for Thomas to be fired.
The controversy escalated quickly over the weekend after the video surfaced online showing Thomas last month saying that Jews should "get the hell out of Palestine," suggesting they go instead to Germany, Poland and the United States. The video, shot by New York Rabbi David Nesenoff, was posted on several prominent websites and prompted a swift apology from Thomas on Friday.
"I deeply regret my comments," she said in the statement, claiming they "do not reflect my heart-felt belief that peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance."
The apology did not satisfy her critics.

However, I want to stress that I do not feel threatened or insulted by this; on the contrary, I feel that we are now starting to get somewhere. The subterfuge, the two faced, forked tongue, politically correct mantra of the news and political class have for far too long allowed this sort of hatred to swell under the guise of "tolerance and understanding". The dishonesty in today's anti-Semitism, the "I don’t have any problem with Jews, I just hate Israel and the Jewish lobby" discourse has actually made it ok and fashionable to be anti-Semitic again. Gone are the days when your typical Nazi had the courage to actually come out and admit his animosity; today's coward smiles to your face while stabbing you in the back. It is about time that those goyem out there start to man up and come out with what is really on their mind. As far as I am concerned, there are really only two classes of you vermin out there; the muslim and the Marxist. The muslim is the more honourable of the two; he is open, honest, and openly dedicated to the destruction of the Jewish people. The Marxist is altogether a different, more despicable creature; when he isn't worried about his own mandate, he is usually found with wet trousers trying to figure out new ways to woo his voter, i.e. the muslim.
Helen Thomas, a vile anti-Semite in her own right, represents a new face on the left, a face that I welcome. I would hope that more and more of her colleagues remove their mask and show us their real faces. Make no mistake my friends, it really makes no difference to us; we already are well aware of who our friends and enemies are. However i find that some of our conservative friends of the gentile peoples tend to be a bit slow when it comes to seeing the left in its purest unadulterated form. Yes they see the socialists but do they realize the murderous legacy of this people? If more cretins lke Thomas start to let their real feelings, ideas, and intentions slip, the more people will wake from their ignorant slumber and line up against them. So I say that this is far from being an unwelcome event. We all know what these poeple are thinking, what they are made of; we can only welcome events like this as they alert the rest of the world as well. (At least those who still have a shred of humanity left)

I would like to say a few things to you and then I shall let you wither and die; for the path in the hereafter shall not be lit for the journey of your hateful and venomous soul. The news may be hard for you to accept but it must be delivered nonetheless. Ms. Thomas, we are not going anywhere; we will fight to the death to defend OUR nation from evil and its appeasers. Nations, people such as you have long lost the meaning of G-d, honour, duty, nation; we oly enhance this meaning as we experience miracle after miracle. As you spit on your soldiers and allow your morality to rot and become disfigured, we only grow stronger. As you ridicule the creator for your own blessings, and shred those documents which he inspired, we will only grow stronger as a result of our commitment to honour those same blessings in our land. Know this, your career cannot be carried with you; shame, however, is eternal.
